Brand new album REMIX!

Download our 2nd full length album – REMIX!

remix-cover

Just like it sounds, this REMIX is a collection of KSR chants ‘Remixed’ by a handful of talented electronic music producers/DJ’s, including Srikalogy (Srikala Roach), Duke Mushroom, DJ Hip Sockit (Aaron Brando) & Nur Habib (Nur Tiven), tm.pOMpey (otherwise known as our amazing drummer Terrence Pompey), theotone (Tony Jarvis) and our very own Todd Keller. This album is a uniquely modern blend of soul-stirring vocals, 3 part harmony and guitar-driven funk combined with Sanskrit mantras and original music set to a backdrop of danceable electronic grooves. Spanning multiple genres, “Remix” is a refreshing offering from a group truly making its mark in the kirtan/world music scene.

“What a JOY to hear the beautiful melodies and sweet harmonies of Kirtan Soul Revival on “Remix” envisioned to shine in a new and exciting way. Great music coupled with great grooves brings an absolutely energizing and inspiring listening experience. You won’t be able to sit still, guaranteed!” – David Newman aka Durga Das

Nestled amidst the Berkshire and Taconic Mountains, Pumpkin Hollow Retreat Center covers 130 acres of open fields, lush forests, colorful flower beds, and an abundant vegetable garden nourished by the crystal clear Taconic Stream. The stream flows through the Hollow, past the campfire grove and swimming hole, the garden and the meditation center, then rushes over a waterfall and out through the base of a deep hemlock-lined gorge.  Across the stream, a network of nature trails connects to the labyrinth, healer’s sanctuary, peace prayer pole, and meditation walk.

Pumpkin Hollow Retreat Center is located 125 miles north of New York City.  Just a 2-1/2 hour trip by car or take the Metro North and a group van (for a small additional fee- we will help make arrangements). www.pumpkinhollow.org

Kirtan Soul Revival (KSR) is New York City’s funkiest devotional mantra music experience. They use traditional Sanskrit mantras, original music, spirituals and music from around the world to create a unique, dynamic sound that merges funk, rock, rhythm and blues, world grooves, and chants. Lush three-part harmonies add fullness and depth to their sound. Kirtan is a celebration of spirit through the chanting of sacred names. KSR invites their audiences to participate fully through call-and-response chanting. Through KSR’s simple presentation, even non-singers can easily experience the joy of being surrounded by harmony in a space that encourages improvisation and exploration. The Kirtan Soul Revival experience invites participants to open their hearts to Spirit and to life!

KSR has led kirtans and chant workshops in and around New York City (including Integral Yoga Institute, Jivamukti Yoga and Laughing Lotus Yoga Center). They have toured successfully both the east and west coast multiple times and have played at Kripalu, and festivals such as Wanderlust, BhaktiFest, Ahimsa Yoga & Music Festival, VerMantra, and Berwick Yoga Festival in Nova Scotia. They have recorded with Krishna Das, The Hanumen, Prema Hara and Devadas. KSR’s chant workshops have been offered to groups as large as 120 people. They also teach heart-centered yoga classes infusing flowing vinyasa and breath-centered movement with live music, chanting, and storytelling.  w ww.kirtansoulrevival.com

Devadas is a kirtaniya, composer and songwriter hailing from Brooklyn, New York who began singing as a teenager, performing on street corners in his hometown of Portland, Maine. After moving to New York City, he had the good fortune to meet his Guru, Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma), and under Her inspiration has been leading kirtans at satsangs, yoga studios, meditation centers and temples all over New York, the U.S. and India.

In 2013, Devadas made his Mantralogy debut with Brooklyn Mellows, an homage to the late great kirtaniya Aindra Das, which features a collection of musicians and singers from the vibrant New York City kirtan scene and beyond, including Anjula Saraswati Prasad, Terrence Pompey, Nina Rao, Mark Gorman, Genevieve Walker and others.  He’s also released “Bhajans”, an album of traditional chants as well as three albums of original devotional compositions, “Ocean – Songs for Amma”, “Shine Shine On” and “Milton’s Glen,” working with luminaries such as Krishna Das and Wah along the way. As a composer, he’s collaborated with indie rocker J Mascis to score the soundtrack to the feature documentary One Track Heart / The Story of Krishna Das and as a producer, worked with Nina Rao on her 2013 release Antarayaami – Knower of All Hearts.  He’s also regularly produced sacred music events to benefit his Guru’s Embracing the World humanitarian charities, and along with fellow chant artists Gaura Vani, Jahnavi Harrison and Dave Stringer, is working with the Call and Response Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing kirtan and sacred music to under-served groups of people.  www.devadasmusic.com

KSR featured on Lost In Sound Blog: We were also honored to be included in this piece by the lovely Denise Porter Kemp about the Vermont Wanderlust Festival. Denise shared her experience in a class we accompanied: “At the end of one Energy Medicine Yoga class I took with Lauren Walker, Walker’s cousin’s funky kirtan band Kirtan Soul Revival out of Brooklyn serenaded us with Sea of Love, and I honestly felt the waves of the breeze, of their voices, of the tent softly flapping around us like waves on the sea as I floated in and out of waking consciousness, yet continuously conscious. It was so, so beautiful. There could be more of this, too.”

KSR at Wanderlust Stratton

We were so excited and honored to be invited to share the KSR love this summer at the amazing Wanderlust Festival in Stratton, VT! We collaborated with lovely kirtan wallah Adam Bauer at the Speakeasy on June 21 from 5-7 for an evening of Bhakti love. Participants had a chance to taste the nectar of the Bhakti path, feel how it integrates our spiritual and material sides into a harmonious whole, and experience how easy and nourishing it can be to bring a deeper devotional current into their own daily yoga practice. The evening included a dharma talk and call and response chanting with live band. Presented in Collaboration with The Call and Response Foundation.
